When to Call 911
Call immediately for:
- Unconscious person
- Severe bleeding
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pain
- Severe burns
- Head injury
- Suspected broken bones
- Any life-threatening situation
Basic First Aid
Cuts & Bleeding
- Apply pressure - Direct pressure on wound
- Elevate - Raise injured area above heart
- Don't remove - Don't remove objects in wound
- Keep pressure - Until help arrives
Burns
- Cool burn - Cool water (not ice)
- Cover - Clean, dry dressing
- Don't pop - Don't pop blisters
- Seek medical - For serious burns
Sprains & Strains
- RICE - Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate
- Don't use - Don't use injured area
- Seek medical - If severe or doesn't improve
First Aid Kit
Every jobsite should have:
- Bandages - Various sizes
- Gauze - For wounds
- Antiseptic - For cleaning
- Gloves - For protection
- CPR mask - For rescue breathing
