When to Call 911

Call immediately for:

  • Unconscious person
  • Severe bleeding
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Severe burns
  • Head injury
  • Suspected broken bones
  • Any life-threatening situation

Basic First Aid

Cuts & Bleeding

  1. Apply pressure - Direct pressure on wound
  2. Elevate - Raise injured area above heart
  3. Don't remove - Don't remove objects in wound
  4. Keep pressure - Until help arrives

Burns

  1. Cool burn - Cool water (not ice)
  2. Cover - Clean, dry dressing
  3. Don't pop - Don't pop blisters
  4. Seek medical - For serious burns

Sprains & Strains

  1. RICE - Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate
  2. Don't use - Don't use injured area
  3. Seek medical - If severe or doesn't improve

First Aid Kit

Every jobsite should have:

  • Bandages - Various sizes
  • Gauze - For wounds
  • Antiseptic - For cleaning
  • Gloves - For protection
  • CPR mask - For rescue breathing


Know Your Limits

Provide basic first aid, but know when to call 911. Don't delay calling for help in serious situations.
